Penn-Trafford-Jeannette area's newly reported covid cases tallied for week ending Feb. 23, 2021
The number of new confirmed covid cases in the Penn-Trafford-Jeannette area dropped by about a third this week, with 19 new cases in the seven-day period ending Feb. 23 — down from 30 the week prior — according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Since the pandemic began in March, the six ZIP codes covering most of the three communities have seen a total of 1,699 confirmed cases as of Feb. 23, up from 1,680 on Feb. 16.
Residents of these six ZIP codes have taken a total of 9,418 coronavirus tests, 18% of which were positive. Since Feb. 16, 129 test results have been reported, 14.7% of which were positive.
The breakdown of cases by ZIP code is:
Jeannette, ZIP code 15644: 912 confirmed cases, 9 new cases this week, 471 probable cases, 4,303 negative test results Trafford, ZIP code 15085: 399 confirmed cases, six new cases this week, 160 probable cases, 1,798 negative test results Harrison City: ZIP code 15636, 216 confirmed cases, two new cases this week, 94 probable cases, 872 negative test results Manor, ZIP code 15665: 91 confirmed cases, no new cases this week, 47 probable cases, 316 negative test results Penn Borough, ZIP code 15675: 43 confirmed cases, one new case this week, 32 probable cases, 213 negative test results Claridge, ZIP code 15623: 38 confirmed cases, one new case this week, 10 probable cases, 217 negative test resultsA significant portion of Penn Township is grouped under the Irwin 15642 ZIP code. That ZIP code has seen a total of 2,587 confirmed cases, up 52 from the week prior.
Penn-Trafford School District has reported a total of 128 covid cases since the school year began, with no new cases being reported in the last week.
Westmoreland County has had a total of 18,730 confirmed cases, 7,699 probable cases, 666 covid deaths and 85,650 negative tests since the start of the pandemic.
A large spike in cases in the county began in September and peaked Dec. 10 with 747 positive cases in a single day. Case counts have been declining steadily, but remain above pre-September levels.
