Verona parks and recreation board members want to do something different for Easter this year due the covid pandemic.
A special drive-in movie night in Railroad Park has been planned in lieu of the traditional egg hunt.
“We’d love to see it full,” said Trish Hredzak-Showalter, councilwoman and recreation board chair. “Any ways to bring people together and share an experience right now is very important, very meaningful.”
Festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. on March 27 with a visit from the Easter bunny.
Volunteers will have treat bags and activities for children along with free individual popcorn bags and refreshments .
Participants can park in the lot by the park and turn their radios to 88.1 FM.
The film “Hop” will be shown at dusk.
The American 3D live-action/computer-animated comedy was produced by Illumination Entertainment and released in 2011.
It stars Russell Brand as E.B., the Easter Bunny’s teenage son.
He heads to Hollywood, determined to become a drummer in a rock band. In LA, he’s taken in by Fred (James Marsden) after the out-of-work slacker hits E.B. with his car, according to the film’s IMDB page.
The movie will be projected onto a large white box truck provided by recreation board vice chair Vince Flotta.
The borough hosted drive-in movies last year with much success.
“It was super exciting because you had a sense of normalcy, a sense of being part of something even though everyone was in their cars,” Hredzak-Showalter said.
Masks will be required for people outside their vehicles.
