Steel City Con at the Monroeville Convention Center has been rescheduled from December to April due to covid-19 concerns.

Steel City Con, one of the largest conventions in the nation and exclusive to the Monroeville Convention Center, has been postponed again due to covid-19 safety concerns.

Organizers were hoping to have pop culture and comic book enthusiasts return to 209 Mall Blvd. in December after having to cancel their July and August events.

Co-owner Denise DeSimone said they made the call to forgo the winter con out of an abundance of caution and for a chance at a better fan experience in April.

“Steel City Con is much more than a Comicon, we are a family,” DeSimone said. “Just as we take precautions with our own families, we want to extend that same level of concern for our fans, vendors and guests. Of course, we were disappointed about the rescheduling, but we felt that it was in the best interest of everyone’s safety that we reschedule.”

Organizers had been mulling over their options for several months.

“We could have possibly had roughly 2,000 attendees, but when you factor in the vendors, guests, and agents, it would not have been enough to provide the level of quality that the Steel City fans love about our shows,” DeSimone said. “We have been actively working on the April show, and we are happy to say that everyone is happy to reschedule in April.”

Celebrities expected to attend include Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Marvel’s Punisher); Matt Lillard (Scooby Doo, Thirteen Ghosts); “Mash” stars Loretta Swit and Jamie Farr; horror film legend Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street series); “Revenge of the Nerds” stars Robert Carradine, Curtis Armstrong and Donald Gibb; former Minnesota governor and WWE Hall of Famer Jesse “The Body” Ventura; and puppet master David Barclay (Yoda and Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars).

“We would like to say thank you for all the support we have received, and that we are looking forward to seeing everyone in April,” DeSimone said.

Tickets for the previous show will be honored. Refunds are also available for those who cannot attend.
