Commuters travel on the Parkway East.

A section of the Parkway East will be reduced to a single lane in each direction starting Friday night through early Monday, PennDOT announced Tuesday.

From 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, crews will restrict I-376 between the Monroeville/Business Route 22 Exit 80 interchange and the bridge over Old William Penn Highway. That stretch spans Churchill, Wilkins, Penn Hills and Monroeville.

Work will consist of reconstructing concrete bridge approach slabs.

The work is part of the $70.1 million I-376 Parkway East Betterment Project. The 4.5-mile project will last until fall 2026 as crews replace the superstructure over Old William Penn Highway and upgrade eight bridges.

Swank Construction Co. is the main contractor.

Drivers can expect single-lane restrictions throughout the project, including on several weekends.
