Penn Hills teen shooting victim identified, recovering from injuries
The victim in a shooting Monday at a gas station in Penn Hills has been identified as 17-year-old Penn Hills High School senior Marques Coffey.
The school district issued a statement Friday on its website at the request of the family, stating that Marques “is in good spirits and continues to recover from his injuries. The family thanks everyone for ongoing well wishes and continued prayers.”
Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a male suspect in the shooting. According to authorities, Marques was shot multiple times near the gas pump of a BP station at the intersection of Frankstown Road and Robinson Boulevard.
Penn Hills Police Chief Howard Burton said the suspect is believed to have fled on foot toward the East Hills housing development near the Penn Hills-Pittsburgh border.
Allegheny County Police said the incident was reported at about 4:30 p.m.
County detectives, who have taken over the investigation, released an image of a suspect, caught on video fleeing the scene, and are asking the public to help identify him.
Police said the suspect is Black, between 5 feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 8 inches tall and has a slender build. He was wearing a hood with a mask, gray pants and a long-sleeve black shirt with a graphic image on the front.
