Penn Hills School Board approves 2022-23 academic calendar

Penn Hills School Board unanimously approved the 2022-23 academic calendar at the April 26 school board meeting. The first day for students will be Monday, Aug. 29, while the staff will start the week before on Aug. 22. The last day of the school year for students will be Friday, June 9, with the official last day for staff as Monday, June 12.

Students will have 24 days off scattered throughout the school year. Thanksgiving break will run from Wednesday, Nov. 23 to Monday, Nov. 28. Winter break will run from Friday, Dec. 23 to Tuesday, Jan. 3. Lastly, spring break will run from Wednesday, April 5 to Monday, April 10.

There are three clerical days while the students are in school, in which the teachers and staff will have to report, but the students will not. Those dates are Jan. 20 (Friday), March 20 (Monday) and May 16 (Tuesday). There is also a conference day during Election Day, on Tuesday, Nov. 8 in which students will not have school.

Other important dates include the PSSA testing dates for grades 3-8. April 24-28 will be the English Language Arts tests and May 1-12 will be the math and science tests, as well as any make-ups. The winter Keystone Exams will take place from Dec. 5-16, while the spring Keystones will take place from May 15-26.

Also noted on the calendar is that the 2023 Penn Hills Kennywood Picnic Day will take place on May 26.
