Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship was recently named one of America’s Healthiest Schools. Celebrating the honor are Marc Taylor (sixth grade), Principal Jessica Zuk, Dezmond Palmer (second grade), Andrea Johnson (sixth grade), Jeremiah Barrett (sixth grade), school nurse Donna Wallace, and Andre Turner (fourth grade).

Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship has been named one of America’s Healthiest Schools for the 2021-2022 school year. The recognition — awarded by Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a leading children’s health organization — celebrates schools’ dedication to supporting the health and well-being of students, staff and families.

The program is based on CDC recommendations to promote health and wellness and achieve academic success for school-aged children.

PHCSE prioritized healthy policies and practices despite numerous challenges resulting from the ongoing covid-19 pandemic. According to a news release, the school has continued to sustain and promote good health in the areas of:

• Strengthening social-emotional health and learning

• Supporting school health services

• Implementing local school wellness policy

• Enriching health education

• Improving nutrition and food access

“It’s been wonderful to partner with our CEO Dr. Wayne Jones and principal Jessica Zuk to promote healthy choices schoolwide through curriculum integration in areas such as our school garden and teaching our students about healthy cooking,” said PHCSE school nurse Donna Wallace.
