News Briefs: Area students named on dean’s list at Saint Francis University, fish fry slated, networking sessions and more

Two students from Penn Hills, Wilkinsburg, Wilkins or Churchill attending St. Francis University in Loretto, Pa. have been named to the school’s dean’s list. To be named on the list, students must be full-time students and maintain a 3.5 GPA on 12 or more credits during a single semester. The students are:

• Rayna Andrews: studying Health Science PA

• Abigail Robinson: studying Health Science PA

Fish fry planned

The Church of the Resurrection at 455 Center Road in Monroeville will host Lenten fish fries on Feb. 19 and 26, and March 5, 12, 19 and 26.

It is drive-thru only with a single menu item, a fish dinner with a sandwich, fries and coleslaw. The cost is $10.

Free tax prep

A free tax preparation service is being offered by the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania through April 10.

The service is available virtually or through a combination of online and in-person meetings.

Clients can upload their materials, and tax experts will prepare and review the return. The hybrid tax preparation will require two brief appointments in a safe environment, following covid-19 guidelines, to provide information and review the return.

The service is available to residents in Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

Assistance from a volunteer tax preparer is available for people and families with a total annual income of up to $57,000.

A free, do-it-yourself online tax assistance program is available at myfreetaxes.com.

Networking planned

Women’s Business Network is an award-winning business association that supports the success and growth of women in business.

The Monroeville chapter has meetings the second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m.
