Multiyear Penn Hills High School reunion to be held in September
Penn Hills High School alumni who graduated between 1970 and 1989 are invited to celebrate the district’s first annual multiyear class reunion.
The reunion will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 11 at Silver Beaver Grove in Boyce Park.
Organizers and fellow alumni Lee Adams, Melissa Shontz and Cindy Fazio wanted to bring different classes together to reminisce and celebrate the memories made at Penn Hills. Adams believes this reunion is the first of its kind.
“We decided that everyone does their particular year but no one does the multiyear even though we were in school with these people,” said Adams, who graduated in 1975.
Shontz held a class reunion in June for the class of 1976. She said the successful event has her looking forward to this next reunion because of the multiple classes that will be present.
“It is a much deeper pool of people who might be interested coming in and reconnecting,” she said.
To spread the word about the reunion, the trio has shared the reunion flyer on social media and on Facebook class pages.
“So far, the comments from people on Facebook have been really positive and excited about this,” Shontz said.
The reunion will also celebrate those considered “VIPs” — staff members or Penn Hills alumni who have made an impact or positive influence on the kids growing up in the community, Shontz said.
“We are lucky enough to live in a community at the time that has a lot of dedication and longevity,” she said.
In addition to VIPs, valedictorians from each class will be recognized. Adams said the limited time for speeches during graduation led to some valedictorians not getting proper recognition for their hard work.
“We will give them a Penn Hills High School alumni shirt and recognize them because the brains of the class did not get the recognition we believe they should have,” Adams said.
There will be a capacity limit of 150 people, so those interested should pay for their spots as soon as possible, Adams said.
This will not the be the last time this type of reunion will happen for Penn Hills alumni.
“This will be an annual event that we want to keep doing every year and continue to keep outside to keep everyone safe,” Adams said.
The reunion will happen rain or shine. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks. Prepay $10 on Zelle for guaranteed admission. There are no refunds.
