In brief: Penn Hills Senior Center challenge, toy drive and more
Penn Hills Senior Center
Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-11 a.m., Fitness Matters at the Senior Center’s Bring a Friend Challenge runs throughout September. All residents of Allegheny County are invited to attend. New participants will be entered to win a drawing for $50 cash. When an existing participant brings a friend, both will receive an entry to win. The drawing will be in class on Oct. 3. Winner need not be present that day.
All equipment is provided. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes and bring water. The exercises are designed to build bone density, prevent falls, increase coordination and add endurance. For more information, call 412-244-3400.
Property appeal education forum
Allegheny County Controller Corey O’Connor will host a community town hall to share information and resources with residents on the property appeals process. The event is slated for 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Penn Hills Library.
Movie in the park
Verona Parks and Recreation presents Movies in the Park 8:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at Cribbs Field, corner of South and Second avenues. Admission is free. The movie is “The Goonies.” Free popcorn and drinks for children will be provided.
Toy drive begins Oct. 1
Lower Valley Athletic Foundation Christmas Toy Drive begins Oct. 1 and ends the first week of December.
There will be donation boxes at Inner Groove Brewing and the Verona borough building, both along East Railroad Avenue. Organizers are looking for new, unopened toys for children of all ages. Toy distribution is expected a week before Christmas. The foundation will reach out to local schools and churches to find families in need. Dungeons and Dragons
Lower Valley Athletic Foundation will host an interactive Dungeons and Dragons event 4 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Verona Fire Hall, 465 Parker St. Participants are encouraged to dress up as medieval characters. They will go through a story will live actors. Cost is $30 per player. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Deadline to register is Oct. 16. Attendees can sign up through the LVAF Facebook page.
Penn Hills 50th reunion
Penn Hills High School’s Class of 1973 will celebrate its 50-year reunion from 5 to 11 p.m. Oct. 6, 2023, at Futules Harmar House in Harmarville. Golf outing to aid Toys for Pittsburgh Tikes
The Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection will host a Sept. 26 golf outing to benefit Toys for Pittsburgh Tikes.
It will take place at the Westmoreland Country Club, 7100 Mellon Road in Penn Township. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Tickets are $150 per person, with sponsorships, foursome and dinner-only tickets also available. Dinner will be at 4:15 p.m.
