In brief: Crescent Hills yard sale, milkweed giveaway and more in Penn Hills

Neighborhood yard sale

Residents throughout the Crescent Hills neighborhood will be doing yard sales on their property from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. June 11. Additionally, there will be a number of residents selling crafts and other items at the Crescent Hills Community Park, located at 141 Sycamore Drive. The Crescent Hills community encompasses the area that forms a crescent shape between Frankstown, Saltsburg and Lime Hollow. Streets include Crescent Hills Road, Spring Grove Road, Earlwood Road, Springdale Drive, Sycamore Road, Garlow Drive, Glenfield Drive, Hathaway Court, Wisteria Drive and McCurdy Drive.

Community garden event

Steel Goat Marketplace presents a Community Backyard Garden Event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 28 at 200 Jefferson Road. Fudge Farm Food Truck and Rita’s Italian Ice, as well as garden experts will be there from 1-3 p.m. A deejay will be spinning music all day and many vendors have signed up to participate.

Milkweed giveaway at Penn Hills Community Garden

The Penn Hills Monarch and Milkweed Project plant giveaway will take place 2-4 p.m. June 4 at the Penn Hills Community Garden, 1162 Jefferson Road.

In an effort to help reverse the decline of the monarch butterfly population in North America, seedlings of butterfly weed, swamp milkweed and common milkweed will be given to Penn Hills residents.

TOPS meetings

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) local chapter meets each Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. for an interactive program focused on various aspects of a healthy lifestyle at Oakmont United Methodist Church, 419 Maryland Ave. in Oakmont.

TOPS is a nonprofit, weight-loss support and wellness education organization. It promotes successful, affordable weight management with a philosophy that combines: healthy eating, regular exercise and wellness. Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting free of charge on any Tuesday. Local monthly dues are $5.
