Candidates sought for school district advisory committee

Penn Hills School District Chief Recovery Officer Daniel Matsook is seeking interested candidates to serve on an advisory committee for the district’s financial recovery plan.

Interested parties must be a resident of Penn Hills, preference given to longstanding residents and/or parents of current or recent past students. Deadline to submit messages of interest is Feb. 5.

Matsook also seeks input from community stakeholders on potential revisions to the financial recovery plan.

Suggestions can be forwarded via email or by attending public board meetings scheduled for Jan. 28 and Feb. 17 and 24.

Church event planned

Monroeville Christian Church will host Oklahoma-based Creation Truth Foundation from April 18-21 at its location at 3780 Northern Pike.

The Creation Truth Foundation will bring its Mobile Museum of Earth History, which features fossils of dinosaurs and other artifacts. The church will also host Ryan Cox for a sermon series called “Dinosaurs, Design and Destiny.”

He will preach at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on April 18. He will also preach at 7 p.m. on April 19, 21 and 23.

Creation Truth Foundation will have books and videos available for purchase. The program is free.

The programs will be broadcast live on the church’s Facebook page and website.

Trib scholarships up for grabs

Trib Total Media is accepting applications for the Scholarship for Diversity in Media and the Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship.

The Scholarship for Diversity in Media is open to high school seniors who are culturally, ethnically or racially diverse and are planning to study journalism, communication or English writing at a four-year college or university.

The scholarship will include financial assistance of up to $7,500 per year for four years, a guaranteed annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.

The Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship is offered to high school or college students attending — or planning to attend — a four-year college or university to study journalism, English writing or communication. The recipient will earn up to $30,000 in scholarship money awarded in annual installments of up to $7,500, an annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.

Park off-street during snow

Penn Hills is asking residents to refrain from parking on streets during snow events.

Keeping the streets clear of parked cars will enable plow trucks and emergency vehicles to safely and efficiently make their way through residential streets.

Snow removal reminder for Verona

Verona officials want to remind residents of the borough’s snow removal ordinance. Property owners and tenants are responsible for removal of snow and ice at their property.

The ordinance states it must be removed within eight hours of snowfall or accumulation of ice. Citations may be given for ordinance violators, including a $50 fine.
