The Penn Hills mayor swore in four new police officers during a March 18 council meeting.

Amanda Duncan, Keven Persichetti, Jacob Smith and James Spade gave their oath before council members and family.

The officers will be in training for six months before starting their service under an additional six-month probationary period, said police Chief Howard Burton.

The addition brings the Penn Hills Police Department to a total of 49 officers. Burton said the department is budgeted for 53, and he plans to hire three more later this year.

Mayor Sara Kuhn said she was pleased to welcome the four officers to the force and offered a warning.

“Please remember, don’t take chances that are unnecessary. Your family wants you to come home to them every night just like everyone else comes home to theirs,” Kuhn said.
