Port Authority police arrested a suspect Tuesday in the stabbing of a passenger multiple times on a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus in Hazelwood.

The attack occurred about 11:45 a.m. on a 56-Lincoln Place bus near Second and Flowers avenues, said Adam Brandolph, an agency spokesman.

The victim was taken to UPMC Mercy in critical condition.

The suspect ran away but was caught by police about 30 minutes later. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian to be treated for cuts on his hands, Brandolph said.

Authorities did not release the suspect’s name.

During the incident, there were about a dozen other passengers on the bus, which was headed Downtown.

No one else was injured.

It is unclear what caused the attack or if the victim and suspect knew each other.

Pittsburgh Regional Transit buses have several surveillance cameras on board, Brandolph said.

“That footage will be reviewed to help determine what led up to this incident,” he said.
