Several hundred households in Pittsburgh’s Northside are being asked to boil their water as a precaution after a water main break Saturday.
Officials with the Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority said the break caused a loss in water pressure, which can result in bacterial contaminants entering the water. There were about 460 households under the precautionary advisory in parts of Perry South, Fineview and the Central Northside.

Water buffaloes were available for affected customers at Perrysville Avenue and Eshelman Street and Pittsburgh EMS Medic 4 at 213 Lafayette Ave.
The 8-inch water main broke on Perrysville Avenue at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, according to authority officials. Water pressure was restored about an hour later. The authority is conducting testing to verify whether the water is safe for consumption.
Until that is finalized, tap water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute. Once it cools, the water can be used for cooking, drinking, brushing teeth, washing raw food and water for pets.
