Part of Pittsburgh Regional Transit's Red Line to close for emergency repairs

Pittsburgh Regional Transit shut down a section of the T’s Red Line on Tuesday morning for emergency repairs.

The transit agency closed inbound tracks from Palm Garden to Castle Shannon around 10:30 a.m. to allow crews to repair about 46 feet of rail and an expansion joint where two breaks were recently discovered.

The closure was expected to last through Thursday afternoon.

Riders traveling inbound from the Arlington, Belasco, Castle Shannon, Dawn, Dormont Junction, Fallowfield, Hampshire, Mt. Lebanon, Palm Garden, Poplar, Potomac, Shiras and Stevenson stations should take an outbound light-rail shuttle to St. Anne’s or Washington Junction and transfer to a Red Line, Blue Line or Silver Line rail car.

All of the cars will operate on Blue Line tracks, and the outbound rail shuttle will be free.

Riders traveling inbound from stations south of Washington Junction — including Bethel Village, Casswell, Dorchester, Highland and South Hills Village — may experience delays. Anybody traveling from those stations to one within the construction area will need to take any inbound rail car and transfer to an outbound Red Line car at South Hills Junction.

The repairs will not impact any bus routes that use the Palm Garden Bridge or the South Busway.
