A Pittsburgh school will gradually reopen over the next two weeks following the death of a student shot outside the school last week.
Marquis Campbell, 15, died at Allegheny General Hospital after being shot twice on Jan. 19. He had been sitting in a van waiting to go home outside Oliver Citywide Academy, a special education center for students in third through 12th grades in Marshall-Shadeland.
The van’s driver was not hurt.
The district said the school will gradually reopen “to allow students, staff and families time to process grief and trauma following last week’s tragedy.”
Staff members will have the option of working in-person or remotely on Monday and Tuesday and all will return to the building on Wednesday, the district said.
Students will continue remote learning until Feb. 2 “to allow time for staff to review individual student safety, crisis management and therapeutic crisis intervention plans with family input before students return for in-person instruction,” the district said.
Police said they are looking for two suspects.
