Norwin to perform ‘Mean Girls’

“Mean Girls,” a musical that helps to teach life lessons about friendship and being true to yourself while surviving high school, will be presented by the Norwin Theatre Company at 7 p.m. March 23, 24 and 25 and at 2 p.m. March 26 at the Norwin High School auditorium.

Mean Girls the musical, based on a book by Tina Fey, was adapted from the 2004 movie of the same name.

Cady Heron, played by Julia Shavel, is a 16-year -old girl who moves from Africa to the suburbs of Illinois. She attempts to gain popularity by taking on popular but mean Regina George, played by Elizabeth Szymanski, and the elite “Plastics” sidekicks Gretchen, played by Abrielle Brown and Karen, played by Rebekah Whittaker.

About 80 students are in the cast and crew of the show. Lauren Scheirer is the theatre company’s music director, vocal coach and producer; Erin Shrader is the creative and costume director/choreographer; and Todd Leighty is the technical director.
