Irwin gets money for street signs
Irwin Borough will get money from the state to install new street signs throughout the borough to meet current design standards.
The state Department of Transportation will give the borough $101,000 for the new street signs under its Automated Red Light Enforcement program.
Shari Martino, borough manager, said the borough will have to follow PennDOT standards for the design of the new signs. Council had discussed last year that some of the alleys in the borough do not have street signs and there is no uniformity of the design of the signs in the community.
The borough also applied for an ARLE grant for a new traffic signal at the intersection of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, but has yet to hear from PennDOT whether it will receive money for that project.
