St. Stephen Church to sell pirohi

St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church, 90 Bethel Road, North Huntingdon, will sell potato and cheese pirohi at 10 a.m. Jan. 27 at the church.

Preorders for sweet cabbage pirohi will be accepted.

The price is $12 per dozen.

Irwin fire department sets fundraiser

The Irwin Volunteer Fire Department is selling tickets to its annual benefit dinner and drawing with a grand prize of $4,000 that will be held March 4 at Antonelli Event Center, 100 Colony Drive, Irwin.

Doors open at 6 p.m., the bar opens at 6:30 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m.

Cost for two people to attend is $140, which includes dinner and an open bar.

‘No parking’ spaces created on Third Street

Motorists accustomed to parking along the northern side of Third Street in Irwin, between Western Alley and Main Street, will have to find another place to park.

Council on Jan. 11 decided to eliminate three parking spots there.

Borough officials had discussed the need to eliminate those spots because of the difficulty in having emergency vehicles make turns in that area.

Irwin aids Concerts in the Parks shows

Irwin Borough will help to fund the Concerts in the Park program at Irwin Park.

Council on Jan. 11 agreed to transfer $3,00 from the borough’s general fund to the civics fund as its annual contribution to the Civic Activities Committee.

The borough will apply for a $1,000 grant from the Westmoreland County Park & Recreational Local Arts grant program, on behalf of the Civic Activities Committee.

Penn State alumni group aids Norwin

Norwin’s Science Technology Engineering and Math initiative has received a $5,500 grant from the Penn State Alumni Association.

The Penn State Alumni Association approved the school district’s request for a grant, which was given in memory of those who started the alumni association chapter many decades ago, according to Heather Newell, Norwin’s director of curriculum and assessment.
