Pep rally planned for Norwin teams

A pep rally is planned for Norwin’s fall sports teams — football, boys and girls soccer, field hockey, girls tennis, cross country, boys and girls golf, girls volleyball and cheerleading — giving fans the opportunity to meet with the players and coaches at 6 p.m Aug. 19 at Norwin Knights Stadium at the high school in North Huntingdon.

Food and refreshments will be available — sno-cones, popcorn, nachos and pizza.

A movie, “The Bad Guys,” will be shown at 8:30 p.m. Those who want to watch the movie can bring blankets and chairs.

The concession stand will benefit Project Playground, which seeks to raise money to make improvements to school playground equipment.

Golf outing planned for Reflections of Grace

The 15th Annual Golf For Grace will be held Sept. 24 at The Madison Club, 519 Yukon Rd., Sewickley Township.

The golf outing will be divided into a morning and afternoon session. Check-in for the morning session is 8 a.m. , with shotgun start at 9 a.m. and lunch at 2:15 p.m. Check-in for the afternoon session will be 1 p.m., with shotgun start at 2 p.m. and dinner in the clubhouse at 7 p.m.

The event will be played under a scramble format. There will be team and individual competitions, including longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt.

The cost is $125 per golfer and $500 for a foursome. The deadline for registration is Sept. 10.

The golf outing is the second largest fundraiser for the Reflections of Grace Foundation, which raises money to fight childhood brain cancer.

Program to address back-to-school anxiety

A licensed social worker and adolescent and young adult psychotherapist from a Pittsburgh teen mental health agency will address the anxiety that parents, students and school staff may face in the new school year during a program at 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at Come, Talk Inc., 321 Main St., Irwin.

Shelby Williams, who works at the Jewish Family & Community Services’ UpStart Pittsburgh, will present the free program for parents and guardians, students in grades 6 through 12, and those working with children and teens.

Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. RSVPs are due by Aug. 22 and can be made by emailing Come.Talk15642@gmail.com or by calling or texting 724- 978-1330.

Norwin library plans astronomy program

Astronomy will be the topic of a program at 6 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Norwin Public Library on Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

Fred Klein will present “Star Life,” about the life cycles of stars, for people age 16 and older.

The program is free, but registration is requested by calling the library at 724-863-4700, ext. 3.

Church to celebrate 50th anniversary

Former pastors of the The Calvary Church on Pennsylvania Avenue, North Huntingdon, will share in stories about the church during the celebration of its 50th anniversary at 5 p.m. Aug. 27 with a banquet at Stratigos Banquet Centre, North Huntingdon.

The event, includes a meal, and will cost $30 per adult, $15 per child from ages 4 to 15 and free to children age three and younger.

Golf outing will benefit Toys for Pittsburgh Tikes

The Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection will host a Sept. 26 golf outing to benefit Toys for Pittsburgh Tikes at the Westmoreland Country Club, 7100 Mellon Road, Penn Township. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
