Norwin area: Band to preview halftime show; French classes at Norwin library; Irwin Music in the Streets
Norwin band preview show set
The Norwin High School Marching Band will give the community a preview of their 2023 production, Pasttime For the Love of the Game, at the Norwin Knights Stadium, from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Norwin Knights Stadium at the high school in North Huntingdon.
The performance is part of the Norwin Band Preview Show and Food Festival that will be held from 5 to 9 a.m. at the high school. The food trucks will be available beginning at 5 p.m.
A portion of all sales from the food trucks will be donated to the high school band, which will use the money to help pay for its Oct. 7 trip to the Bands of America Regional competition in Toledo, Ohio.
First aid program slated
The North Huntingdon EMS/Rescue will present a program designed to teach participants how to control bleeding, using commercial and improvised tourniquets and packing wounds during a program at 6 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.
The Stop the Bleed program is designed to prepare people to save lives by raising awareness of basic actions to stop life threatening bleeding following everyday emergencies and man-made and natural disasters.
St. Stephen Church to sell pirohi
St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church at 90 Bethel Road, North Huntingdon, will sell pirohi at 10 a.m. Aug 18.
The potato and cheese pirohi cost $12 a dozen and Lekvar pirohi cost $15 a dozen.

Irwin Music in the Streets slated
Downtown Irwin will be filled with the sounds of music from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Aug. 17 with the return of the Music in the Streets program.
Neids Hotel Band, will perform with the opening act of Angelina at the Fifth Street parking lot.
On Fourth Street, Three Guys & a Gail will play, while the Colonial Grille Taproom at 233 Main St. will feature Matt Tichon. Judi Figel & Dave Crisci will sing at The Lamp Theatre Courtyard, while Soulful Femme will play at Brandy’s Basement at 200 Main St.
French lessons at library
Those interested in learning French pronunciation and vocabulary and phrases used commonly in English context, can take two lessons of the language at 1 p.m. Aug. 12 and 19 at the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.
A retired McKeesport High School French school teacher will teach students about Paris location and landmarks and provide participants with conversational French to introduce yourself and to ask those common tourist questions when sightseeing and dining.
