Living Last Supper to be performed

The First United Methodist Church at Oak and Third streets in Irwin once again will perform its re-enactment of Leonardo da Vinci famous painting, The Last Supper, at 7 p.m. on March 26 and 28 of Holy Week.

It incorporates the da Vinci painting as a model for the set and also is meant to represent a true picture of the Last Supper. The speaking parts are meant to allow the audience to hear the inner thoughts of each man.

Norwin Senior Softball league sign-up slated

Norwin Senior Softball, a league for men and women ages 55 and older, will hold registration from 9 to 11 a.m. April, 2, 4 and 5 at the Police Athletic League fields off Bridge Street in the Shafton section of North Huntingdon.

Players can make a voluntary donation to the Westmoreland County Food Bank when they register.

The cost of registration is $25, which includes receiving a tee-shirt and hat.

Games are played on Wednesday mornings, from April through mid-September.

Irwin police to get body cameras

The Irwin police department will be getting six body-worn cameras in the next few months.

Irwin Council on March 13 approved the purchase of the cameras and computer system that retains the video from Axon Enterprises Inc. of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Irwin Police Chief Dan Wensel said the body-worn cameras and necessary information technology to will cost about $20,000. It is on back-order and likely will not be available for about two months.

The borough transferred money from its street paving account to pay for the body-worn camera system. If the borough is able to get any money from the Westmoreland County District Attorney for the police department cameras, that money will be used to reimburse the street paving account.

The borough council also approved buying a security camera system from Reliant Systems LLC of Irwin for $6,785, to be installed at the public works department on First Street.
