Irwin church to hold Oktoberfest

An Oktoberfest featuring kielbasa, pork, hot dogs, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, applesauce and dessert will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the First United Church of Christ, 400 Main St., Irwin,

Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children age 12 and younger.

Churches to hold cash bash Oct. 20

An Oktoberfest-themed night featuring 12 chances to win cash prizes ranging from $200 to $1,000, and small games of chancewill be available Oct. 20 at Mack Hall at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church of North Huntingdon.

The doors open at 5 p.m. and the food will be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Those attending can bring their own bottle, but all who attend must be at least 21 years old.

The $30 ticket covers the cost of food, beer and soda. Twelve cash prizes totaling $4,250 will be awarded. Winners need not be present.

Tickets are being sold after Masses at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and Immaculate Conception Church of Irwin, both of which are sponsoring the event, and at the church offices. A maximum of 250 tickets will be sold.

Pet blessing planned in North Huntingdon

The New Hope Presbyterian Church, 12727 Lincoln Way, North Huntingdon, will conduct its annual Blessing of the Pets from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 9.

All pets are welcome.

Drew’s Crew will be at the church with adoptable pets.

Vets sought for Pittsburgh Veterans Day Parade

The White Oaks Veterans Center at 2001 Lincoln Way is seeking veterans who want to walk in the Pittsburgh Veterans Day Parade at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11.

Those interested should register by Oct. 14 by email to dorey.mccarron@va.gov or by telephone at 412-678-7704.

The Veterans Center will provide participants with a T-shirt. Veterans do not need to be enrolled at the White Oak center to participate.

The staging area for the parade will be in the city’s Strip District. Veterans must have their transportation to and from the event.

Church accepting orders for ethnic food sale

St. Agnes Church, 11400 St Agnes Lane, North Huntingdon, will sell ethnic food — staffed cabbage, haluski, pierogi, kielbassa and kraut — on Oct. 29.

All orders are by pre-sale only, with pick-up from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 29 in the church’s Resurrection Hall. Prices range from $5.50 to $34, depending on the food and the quantity.

The food will be fully cooked, but will be chilled when sold.

Order forms are due by Oct. 19 to the parish office or in a collection basket. No late orders will be accepted.

Forms can be found in the narthex, the parish office and the church website at stagneschurch.info and click onto the 2022 fall bulk ethnic food sale link.

Payment must accompany order forms. Checks should be made payable to St. Agnes Church.

Women’s business group to meet virtually

The Virtual Chapter of the Women’s Business Network, a business association with more than 20 chapters throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania, meets via Zoom at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month.

AARP seeks volunteers for tax aide program

The AARP Foundation is seeking volunteers to train for its tax aide program, the nation’s largest volunteer-based tax preparation service.

The group is looking for volunteers to help support tax preparation activities in Murrysville, Delmont, Penn Township, Trafford and North Huntingdon. Open positions include tax return preparer, client facilitator and appointment scheduler.

Association of University People meeting

The Association of University People’s club for single college graduates age 50 and over invites potential new members to join them for monthly dinners, gatherings and more.

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at Atria’s, 4869 William Penn Highway in Murrysville.

The association will also host a Thanksgiving Day dinner with a multi-room buffet at the Lamplighter, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem.
