Norwin area: Church barbecue, genealogy program, bake sale
North Huntingdon church to hold barbecue
Barbecued pulled pork, corn, cole slaw, baked beans, cookies and drinks will be available at the backyard barbecue at the New Hope Presbyterian Church, 12727 Lincoln Way, North Huntingdon.
Guitarist Wayne Shafer will play and there will be games and face painting.
The cost is $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 4 to 10. Children age 3 and younger are free.
Norwin library to hold genealogy program
A genealogist will offer tips on conducting family history research during a program at 6 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Norwin Public Library, Caruthers Lane, Irwin.
Rebecca Kitcha Miller, former president of the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society, will present “Getting and Staying Organized.” She will suggest ways a person can organize their mind with a technique called mind-mapping.
The program is free, but registration is requested. Contact the library at 724-863-4700, ext. 3.
West Newton library to hold book sale
The West Newton Library at 124 N. Water St., is seeking donations of used paperback, hardcover and children’s books, as well as DVDs and audiobooks for a sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 20 and 27.
Donations can be dropped off at the library during our regular hours, from noon to 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays; from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesdays; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
In conjunction with the book sale, the West Newton Lions Club will sell brooms and garbage bags.
