An incumbent member of West View borough council lost his bid in the May 18 primary to run for another term.

Five Democrats were on the ticket vying for party nominations to run in November for four open seats on West View borough council.

Councilman Eugene Borio, who has served for seven years, did not receive enough votes on the Democratic ticket to get on the ballot in the fall.

Democrats nominated incumbent Councilmen Aguglia, Bryan S. Kircher and Robert D. Schellhaas.

Newcomer Matthew R. Gajtka also received the nod from Democrats to run for the seat.

Gajtka received 414 votes — nine more than Borio — to secure the fourth spot on the ticket for the general election.

No Republicans sought their party’s nomination to run for council, but 44 write-in votes were cast.

Only 10 write-in votes are needed to get on the ballot in November, according to county election officials.

People who receive enough write-in votes to run in the general election must accept the party’s nomination and be qualified to run before their names are placed on the ballot.

The borough’s mayor, John R. Henry, ran unopposed on the Democratic ticket his party’s nomination.

There were no Republicans on the ballot for mayor, but 35 write-in votes were cast in the primary.

Candidates for council outlined their positions prior to Tuesday’s primary.
