North Hills School District preps for new school year
For parents and students in the North Hills School District, the clock on summer vacation officially is ticking. The first day of school for students in grades 1-12 in the district is Aug. 24.
Kindergartners will have orientation on either Aug. 24 or 25, and their first full day of school will be Aug. 26.
New student orientation for grades 1-5 will be 4-5 p.m. Aug. 18 at all of the elementary schools.
According to the district, teacher assignments, bus assignments, locker information and class schedules will be available mid-August.
When it comes to athletics, district director of communications Heather Pelat said there is a change regarding football tickets: Reserved tickets for the 2022 season go on sale at 8 a.m. Aug. 4 on a first-come, first-served basis. Seats from last year are not guaranteed. Reserved seats are $35 each and must be purchased online at gofan.co/northhillsindians. General admission for games will be available beginning Aug. 22 on the same website.
Pelat also said school districts are required to review their health and safety plans and make updates as needed every six months.
“We are making modifications to our health and safety plan as required by the state. The revised plan will be on the agenda for approval at our next school board meeting on Aug. 4,” she said.
North Hills is looking to hire for some positions, including (as of press time) a German teacher, certified classroom assistants, and some coaches, as well as bus driver and cafeteria positions. Current job openings can be found at nhsd.net/JobOpportunities.aspx.
The district contracts its bussing through ABC Transit, and interested parties can apply online at abctransit.com.
Pelat said those interested in food service positions can contact Lindsay Radzvin at 412-318-1053 or radzvinl@nhsd.net.
School supply lists are online at nhsd.net.
