A nearly eight-month long stint as acting McCandless police chief has ended for Lt. Ryan Hawk.
Council on Monday voted unanimously to appoint Hawk as the town’s new chief of police.
“I think we are all very pleased with how Ryan has supported our police department and led our police department over the past several months,” said council President Kim Zachary.
Hawk was appointed two times to serve as the town’s acting chief. He was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant in 2018, and was named acting chief in January 2019.
Hawk served as acting chief until former chief David DiSanti agreed to the terms of a corrective action plan the town developed to address accusations of sexual misconduct against him.
DiSanti was placed on paid leave Oct. 29, 2018 after a female officer accused him of treating her unfairly because of her gender and making unwanted sexual advances. He returned to work in February 2019.
Hawk was again named acting chief in November after DiSanti announced his retirement.
Hawk’s annual salary as chief will be $119,000.
