Students at Ingomar Middle School are switching to remote instruction through the end of the week after three positive covid-19 cases were reported during a 14-day period, North Allegheny school officials announced.
All other district buildings will remain open for in-person instruction.
Athletics and activities at Ingomar Middle School will be allowed to resume Saturday.
The most recent cases at Inogomar bring the school’s total for the year to nine — the fewest among the district’s three middle schools.
So far this year, there have been 17 covid cases at Carson Middle School and 34 at Marshall Middle School.
The total number of cases for the district was 263 as of Tuesday. Of that number, 81 were staff and 182 were students.
The highest number of cases — 70 — has been reported at the senior high school followed by 45 at the intermediate high school.
The district also has 373 people in quarantine because of potential contact with a person infected with the coronavirus. Thirty-two of the people in quarantine are staff members and 341 are students.
People are at risk for getting the virus if they are in close contact with somebody who has tested positive.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines close contact as being within 6 feet of someone who has covid-19 for 15 minutes or longer.
