A local Girl Scout troop will be holding a food drive at McCandless Crossing on two Saturdays in November to help needy families during the holidays.

Girls from Troop #36774 will be at the shopping center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 1 and 14.

Donations will be used to create “Everything but the Turkey” dinner kits for Thanksgiving that the Scouts will supply to the West View Hub Food Pantry for distribution during the holidays.

“The girls in the troop are keenly aware of the impact that covid-19 has had on a number of families in the community, so they created the idea for the Thanksgiving dinner kits,” said Diane Bova, a co-leader of the troop.

Kevin Dougherty, president of AdVenture Development, said the company is happy to provide a place for the girls to hold their food drive.

“We applaud the efforts of these young women and are happy to help promote their community service project during these difficult times,” he said.

The girls will be set up on the Town Green between Old Navy and Ethan Allen to collect donations of the following items:

• Instant stuffing

• Jars or packets of turkey gravy

• Canned cranberry sauce

• Canned fruit or pumpkin “complete” pie filling

• Boxed pie crust mix

• Canned yams or sweet potatoes

• Canned vegetables

• Take and bake bread

• Baked goods mixes
