Fire destroyed an apartment building in West View on Wednesday, displacing seven residents and leaving one woman in critical condition, authorities said.

The four-alarm fire started at a four-unit building on Oakwood Avenue about 10:45 a.m., said West View Lt. Matt Holland.

Holland said one woman was rescued and taken to UPMC Mercy in critical condition, suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. No one else inside apartment building was injured. One firefighter from Berkeley Hills was treated at the scene for a minor injury.

Authorities said the building is likely a total loss. Every window in the front of the building was broken out, and smoke scorched the outer brick walls from inside.

The Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the blaze. The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating.
