Chiropractor Aaron Prinkey likes to say he gives better movement to backs, especially through a new program he’s participating in called the Give Back Movement.
His newly opened Talley Cavey Chiropractic office along Route 8 has joined a national effort that donates 100% of new patient first-visit fees to a designated charity. Prinkey has chosen North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO), an Allison Park-based charity that helps more than 25,000 people a year with services such as food, utility and transportation.
“They have a fantastic program that allows for the support of people in need,” said Prinkey, a resident of Franklin Park. “I appreciate that they have multiple programs that help differing needs.”
A chiropractor for more than two decades, Prinkey has operated from an office in downtown Pittsburgh most of his career. He branched out to Hampton, in part, he said, because “it’s a beautiful area and fairly close to where I grew up in Plum. I think we can make an impact here.”
Prinkey said he became interested in chiropractic medicine at a young age, largely because of injuries he sustained as a multisport athlete at Plum High School.
A year-round schedule saw wrestling matches run into track season, then straight onto baseball, golf and football.
“As a result, I had a lot of back pain for which I took muscle relaxers,” Prinkey said. “That was fine until I ran out of them and then I was right back where I started. I had to try something new.”
A visit to a chiropractor sparked Prinkey’s passion for healing physical ailments through spinal adjustments.
Prinkey earned his undergraduate degree at Duquesne University before heading to Palmer College for his chiropractic degree.
Hampton resident Eric Pursh, Prinkey’s childhood friend who now works as the office community outreach coordinator, hopes that participating in the Give Back Movement will have a significant impact at NHCO.
“There’s offices that have given tens of thousands of dollars to their designated charity,” Pursh said. “We just signed on to the effort but we want to be part of helping to get people back on their feet.”
An initial visit at Prinkey’s office costs $39. That fee will go directly to help services at the North Hills area charity that offers a bevy of services, from food pantries and utility assistance to employment support and free rides for senior citizens.
Erica Cochran from NHCO said that when local businesses choose to give back to local nonprofits, they are not only doing good in their community, but they are setting an example for others.
“One of our main goals is to make the communities we serve aware that we are here and how we can help their neighbors in need,” Cochran said. “Something such as the Give Back Movement allows this to happen.”
Over the past year, NHCO provided 25,215 services to 3,259 local families in need. Whether it was free school supplies, disaster relief or home safety checks, the group’s mission is to provide for people in hard times.
Prinkey said his office, located in the Hampton Shoppes off Route 8, hopes to be involved in the community in other ways as well.
An open house/ribbon cutting with the Pittsburgh North Regional Chamber of Commerce is planned for September to invite the community to meet the doctor. The date is not yet finalized.
On Oct. 1, Prinkey is scheduled to co-host a wellness fair at Cadence Clubhouse at Pro Bike + Run in North Park. About 15 health-related businesses have signed on for people to browse and learn more about wellness.
