A stately stone home is on the market in the Murdoch Farms neighborhood of Squirrel Hill.

Known as the “Blinker House,” the limestone residence is listed for $2.6 million by Realtor David Onufer of Hanna Luxury Real Estate, Onufer Team of Squirrel Hill.

“Homes like this come along once in a lifetime as evidenced by there having only been three owners in its nearly 100-year history,” Onufer said.

Designed by the late architect Charles Tattersall Ingham of Pittsburgh, the home at 1345 Inverness Ave. was built in 1925 for the Brann family and occupies something not often found in the the city — a double corner lot.

The Blinker moniker was given to the residence because the home sits at the five-point intersection of Inverness, Plainfield, Murdoch and Woodmont streets, and back in the day a red blinking light alerted motorists to the intersection.

The light is gone, but the nickname remains.

Onufer described the six-bedroom, five-bathroom residence as one of the most beautiful homes in Pittsburgh.

“The house has a very stately presence with its limestone facade, but once inside it has a very warm, welcome feeling,” Onufer said.

The property includes a marble entryway, outdoor pool and hot tub, finished basement, checkered marble entryway, sunroom, two-car garage and almost 5,000 square feet of living space.

Onufer noted a bright sunroof off of the living room is a favorite nook in the home.

“It’s smaller and more intimate, but the large glass doors keep it sun-filled and warm,” he said.

Murdoch Farms was named for the family dairy farm and nursery that existed there until the early 20th century.

The formal dining room has its original wood paneling, which has been meticulously maintained.

The current owners are selling the home after residing there for 32 years and raising a family. They now plan to relocate to California.

Onufer said the listing is attractive to all types of buyers.

“It’s certainly a great place to raise a family, but it could also be suitable for a couple or single person that enjoys entertaining and hosting guests,” he said.

The annual property taxes are a little more than $19,000, according to online Allegheny County real estate records.
