Matt Tolbert, of Pittsburgh, a member of the Explorers Club of Pittsburgh, uses rappelling equipment to descend from the top of the Mount Washington overlook to work on cleaning up litter from Pittsburgh’s famous mountainside during the annual volunteer effort on Saturday, April 29, 2023 along Grandview Avenue on Mount Washington.

Experienced mountain climbers and other volunteers cleaned up litter Saturday from the slopes of Pittsburgh’s Mount Washington. They rappelled down the cliff from along Grandview Avenue.

The Explorers Club of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and the Allegheny Mountain Rescue Group participated in the cleanup efforts, which have been conducted by the groups for more than 25 years.
