Stolen guns recovered in Homewood traffic stop

A man and two juveniles were arrested after a traffic stop yielded drugs and multiple weapons, including two handguns that had been reported stolen.

Pittsburgh police said officers were patrolling in Homewood on Monday following a non-fatal shooting. Shortly after 10 p.m., they said they pulled over a car for multiple traffic violations on Bennett Street near Brushton Avenue.

Officers found three guns — two handguns reported stolen, and a polymer-based “ghost gun” with no serial number.

The vehicle’s driver was cited for marijuana possession, and passenger Tyshawn Morton, 18, of Pittsburgh was charged with carrying an unlicensed firearm, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, prohibited acts and carrying a loaded gun.

Morton was released on bail and faces a Sept. 18 preliminary hearing in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.

No injuries reported in Shaler fire

Allegheny County 911 officials said no one was transported from a fire late Tuesday night on Mount Vernon Drive in Shaler.

Officials from the Cherry City Volunteer Fire Co. said they responded just before 9 p.m. and found a working garage fire.

Multiple crews on scene held the fire to just the garage.

Arrest in Clairton shooting

Allegheny County Police have arrested a Pittsburgh man in connection with shooting Sunday.

James Reese, 36, turned himself in at the Clairton district court Tuesday, police said. He is charged with aggravated assault, two counts each of terroristic threats and simple assault, four counts of reckless endangering and possession of instruments of crime.

First responders were called shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday to the intersection of North Fourth Street and Carnegie Avenue, where they found a driver who’d been shot in the leg. Police said Reese got out of another vehicle to fire the shots. The victim struck Reese while trying to drive away from the gunfire.

The driver was treated and released from a local hospital.

His bail was set at $50,000 unsecured, and a Sept. 17 preliminary hearing is scheduled in Judge Armand Martin’s Clairton court.
