Pittsburgh police K9 Fredy has died after 10 years of service.

Pittsburgh police K9 Fredy dies

A retired Pittsburgh police K9 has died.

Fredy, 10, was a patrol/explosive detection K9 who began his service in June 2014.

Police announced the news on social media and said K9 Fredy retired in January and enjoyed his retirement living with handler, Officer Bogert, and his family.

“RIP Fredy,” the post read. “Your loyal service to the City of Pittsburgh and its citizens will never be forgotten.”

Bus fire in Pittsburgh’s Uptown

Police are investigating a bus fire early Friday in Pittsburgh’s Uptown.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. along Pride Street, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV.

No injuries were reported.

2 fires in Aliquippa

Crews battled two fires in Aliquippa early Friday — marking the eighth and ninth fires in 10 days in the city.

The first blaze broke out around 4 a.m. in a vacant home along Beaver Avenue, according to Trib news partner WPXI.

Emergency crews were called to a second fire shortly after along Main Avenue. That home is also vacant, according to a 911 dispatcher.

2 vehicles crash into Shaler garage

Emergency crews were called to a three-vehicle crash in Shaler around 11 p.m. Thursday.

No injuries were reported, WPXI reported.

Two vehicles crashed into an unattached garage in the 1600 block of Babcock Boulevard. A third car parked inside was damaged.

Police are investigating.

Teens being eyed in Canon-McMillan stadium fire

Police say several teens caught on surveillance video are responsible for causing heavy damage to Canon-McMillan High School’s football stadium, WPXI reported.

A fire Thursday burned through the school’s metal bleachers.

Police said it appears the fire was set around 2 a.m. on the roof of the concession stand.

The state police fire marshal is investigating.

No damage estimates are available, but Canonsburg Fire Chief Tim Solobay estimates costs to be at least $150,000.

Party to celebrate Allegheny RiverTrail expansion

Allegheny RiverTrail Park in Aspinwall will kick off the transformation of a recently acquired plot of land during a community party at 6 p.m. Friday.

Park leaders purchased 6 acres of parkland and 1.5 miles of multi-use trails that will expand the park along the Allegheny River.

The event is free. There will be music and food vendors.

Theft from vehicle in Hempfield

State police are investigating after they say a person stole credit cards from a vehicle at LA Fitness in Hempfield.

The cards were used Tuesday at Walmart and Sam’s Club stores, according to a social media post by police.

The suspect tried to buy $4,000 in gift cards between the two stores.

On 6/13 1200-1400 Credit cards were stolen from a vehicle at LA Fitness in hempfield, then used at Walmart and Sam's club.

Police drill scheduled in Canonsburg

Canonsburg police are alerting residents who live near Canon-McMillan Middle School that they might hear gunshots Friday — but it’s just a drill.

The department will be having a multi-police agency training session at the school. About 15 officers are scheduled to participate.

Police said on social media that the training will occur every Wednesday and Friday through June 25.
