Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Friday, Sept. 29:

Police investigate Oakland robbery

Pittsburgh police say they are searching for a suspect following a robbery in Oakland.

University of Pittsburgh police said they are assisting city police into the incident that occurred in the 300 block of Oakland Avenue.

Two people told police that a man — who said he had a gun, but they didn’t see one — told them to throw away their cellphones and walk with him to an ATM, where they withdrew money. The subject then fled, headed south on Oakland Avenue. He was found on surveillance camera footage, police said.

Police described the man as being between 30 and 40 years old, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8 tall, medium build, broad shoulders, wearing glasses, a beanie hat or bandana, a mask, a beige trench coat and dark pants.

Police encourage those with information to contact University of Pittsburgh or City of Pittsburgh police.

$1 million scratch-off sold in West Mifflin

A Shop ‘n Save in West Mifflin sold a $1 million dollar scratch-off ticket for the “$1 Million? Seriously” game, according to the Pennsylvania Lottery.

The store, at 4647 Buttermilk Hollow Road, will get a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

“$1 Million? Seriously” costs $20 to play and offers top prizes of $1 million. It’s the same game that made a Fawn woman a million dollars richer this summer.

The lottery says scratch-offs are distributed randomly, meaning lottery officials don’t know where winning tickets will be sold.

Pittsburgh man indicted on bank robbery charges

A federal grand jury has indicted a Pittsburgh man on bank robbery charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Western Pennsylvania.

The indictment claims Dwayne Harvey, 55, stole more than $4,000 from a Huntington Bank in North Versailles on July 28. Then, the indictment says, he stole more than $3,000 from a Citizens Bank in Pittsburgh on Aug. 8.

By law, a maximum sentence for the crimes would be 20 years in prison, up to a $250,000 fine or up to three years of supervised release; or a combination thereof, according to U.S. attorneys.

The FBI, Pittsburgh police and the North Versailles Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin C. Dobkin is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
