Kennedy Township fire department warns of scam

Kennedy Township Independent Volunteer Fire Co. is the latest in a string of departments being hit by a phishing scam.

People are selling T-shirts that they say will benefit the fire company, but it is not legitimate, officials said.

“We are not selling limited edition T-shirts or any merchandise,” the fire company posted on social media.

“There is a huge scam text message that went out recently to many people. Please do not click the link sent as it is a scam,” the fire company added.

Earlier this week, Derry Volunteer Fire Company reported a similar fraudulent fundraiser had targeted its department.
