Transit officials unveil East Busway’s renovated Negley Station

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday to mark Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s completion of renovations to the Negley Station along the East Busway.

The $2.5 million project added a new ramp and stairs from South Negley Avenue, new inbound and outbound platforms, a covered waiting area, LED lighting and features to improve pedestrian safety.

The improvements are part of the transit agency’s larger Building on the East Busway project, which will include three new stations along the dedicated bus lanes at Baum-Centre, Larimer and Brushton as well as improvements to the existing Wilkinsburg Station.

The East Busway connects to three large job centers in Downtown, Oakland and East Liberty and is the most used transit line in the region.

Pittsburgh woman accused of Social Security fraud

A Pittsburgh woman has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly stealing Social Security benefits that were deposited in her deceased mother’s bank account.

Investigators say that between June 2018 and March 2020, Susan Mentser, age 70, stole $21,483 in Supplemental Security Income benefits received after her mother died by accessing the deceased woman’s bank account.

If convicted, Menster could face 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.
