A volunteer firefighter from a Butler department was seriously injured after a motorcycle crash on Tuesday.

The West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department posted to social media, asking for prayers.

“Unfortunately one of our own was involved in a motorcycle accident on the way home from training tonight and is currently at UPMC-Presby being treated for some serious injuries,” the post reads. “Seeing some of the things we see isn’t easy when it’s a stranger but when it’s one of our own, it makes it that much harder.”

Portion of Wilkins Avenue to close in Braddock Hills

Wilkins Avenue will close between Cross Street and Garfield Avenue in Braddock Hills on Thursday, according to the Allegheny County Department of Public Works.

The closure will begin at 9 a.m. and is expected to last through November.

Crews from Mele & Mele & Sons will be constructing a roadway support structure. Work is part of a $7.6 million 2023 Capital Roads contract.

Traffic will be detoured using Brinton Road, Yost Boulevard, Sixth Street and Braddock, Kenmawr, Talbot, South Braddock and Woodstock avenues.

Residents will have access to their homes.

During the closure, paving on Wilkins Avenue between Brinton Road and Woodstock/Hawkins avenues will continue. It will require periodic single-lane closures during which flaggers will be on hand to control traffic at work zones.
