A Pittsburgh man has been charged with assault and various gun violations in connection with a shooting Thursday at a Monroeville hotel.

Jamar Reese, 36, remained detained in the Allegheny County Jail on Thursday night after being denied bail.

He is charged with aggravated assault, person not to possess guns , carrying a gun without a license and possession of offensive weapons.

Charges stem from an incident at the Red Roof Inn along Mosside Boulevard.

Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole said officers were dispatched to the hotel around 1:30 a.m. Thursday for a reported shooting.

Officers learned there was a party in one of the rooms. The chief said a fight broke out and two people were shot.

Cole said one person was transported via Monroeville EMS to Forbes Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Another person, later identified as Reese, was taken via private vehicle to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

Cole said Reese was treated and released from the hospital and subsequently arrested.

Reese’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 6 before District Justice Jeffrey L. Herbst.

Cole said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely.

Officers seized an SUV and recovered a gun as part of the investigation.

No further information was available.
