Monroeville is warning residents to avoid parking in the street ahead of expected snowfall over the weekend.

In an annoucement posted on its Facebook and website, Monroeville said street parking is prohibited in the municipality during a snow event and will write parking tickets to violators.

“Vehicles parked on the street during a snow accumulation incident are a safety hazard to the snow plow operators and the general public,” reads the statement. “On-street parking limits the (municipality’s) ability to provide the effective and efficient service that is our goal.”

The National Weather Service in Moon Township forecasts snow showers Thursday evening through Friday morning and is calling for about 1 to 2 inches of snow accumulation.

As of Thursday around 3 p.m. NWS placed a winter storm watch on portions of southwest and western Pennsylvania from Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon and is calling for 3 to 12 inches of snow and some ice.

The NWS advisory said travel could be “very difficult to impossible” during the storm.

Mike Adams, Monroeville’s public works director, said the municipality has around 4,000 tons of salt at the ready.

“It’s give or take that, somewhere around there. It was a mild December, so we haven’t used much,” Adams said.
