While Monroeville Council approved the demolition of 10 houses deemed unsafe, three have received six-month extensions to give owners a chance to make improvements.

The properties slated for demolition include 758 Cottonwood and 306 Interlaken drives; 104 Elmwood St.; 604 Lincoln, 1594 Lynn and 1600 Lynn Ave.; and 4654 Old William Penn Highway.

The properties with extensions are 1610 Lynn Ave. and 4334 and 4336 Northern Pike. If the unsafe conditions are not adequately addressed, the properties will be demolished.

The planned round of demolitions could cost up to $100,000, said Tim Little, Monroeville manager.

Monroeville’s 2019 spending plan includes $60,000 earmarked for demolitions.

The total cost to the municipality will depend on whether asbestos is found in the structures and how much Monroeville receives from federal Housing and Urban Development funds, Little said.

HUD will announce Community Development Block Grant allocations in the summer.
