Monroeville Convention Center will host a Fire & EMS Show Saturday and Sunday. Local volunteer firefighters and over 100 vendors from the tri-state area will be on hand to display their equipment, apparatus, and vehicles.

In another sign of things getting back to normal, the Monroeville Convention Center will once again host a firefighter and EMS expo this weekend.

The show is under new management and branding.

Gratzie Ventures presents the Monroeville Fire & EMS Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 209 Mall Plaza Blvd.

It is the first major show for the promotion company recently launched by Monroeville resident Stephanie Katofsky.

“I recently graduated from Penn State in December and started this venture in January of this year,” she said. “It is exciting to be able to get multiple fire departments and businesses to get together to share their knowledge and benefits from within multiple states. (We are) able to assist fire departments in seeing different vendor’s equipment and vehicles side by side at the show.”

Pleasant Hills firefighters are expected to do vehicle extrication demonstrations around 11 a.m. Saturday.

Other departments will assist with a chemical burn demonstration sometime Sunday.

Admission is $6. Children ages 10 and younger get in free.

More than 150 vendors, 45 fire trucks and ambulances and emergency responders from around the country are expected to be on hand.

Many nonprofits will have information to share. All Monroeville fire departments will be participating.

Monroeville Volunteer Fire Co. No. 6 deputy Fire Chief Harold Katofsky, Stephanie’s father, said he is excited for the opportunity to showcase the municipality.

“I think it’s dynamic for Monroeville because people look at Monroeville as a destination location,” he said. “There’s hundreds and hundreds of people that are visiting Monroeville to see the show, see the fire department.”

Katofsky said he spoke with people from Hershey, Lancaster and New York that saw previous Monroeville expos and plan to stop by the show. He hopes the event helps generate some revenue for the local restaurants and businesses.

“With covid and everything, I don’t know what the turnout is going to be,” Katofsky said.

Sobel’s Obscure Brewery in Jeanette is one of several drink vendors scheduled. Star Hill Winery will offer wine tastings on both days.

Other vendors include 911 Clothing, A&A Novelties, 3 Rivers Fire Equipment, Kush Kustoms, Luke’s Leather Works, PA State Animal Response Team and Resolve Crisis Services.

Firefighters will be collecting used equipment to be donated to the Dominican Republic.

The event was organized for many years by Kelly Simon Event Management and owner Kelly Simon of Greensburg. She and her father, Jack, started the Fire and EMS Expo in 1987.

Simon passed away on Nov. 17, 2020. She was 60.
