The Monroeville Arts Council launched summer activities — late spring, technically — with an Art in the Park event June 10.

Youngsters and their families were invited to enjoy a day of hands-on arts and crafts activities in Pavilion #5 at Monroeville Community Park West, exploring a variety of projects to stimulate their imagination: painting, sculpting, music and crafts.

The actual start of a new season will bring the return of the arts council’s Summer Concert Series, sponsored by UPMC East. All concerts are free and held from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Community College of Allegheny County Boyce Campus auditorium, 595 Beatty Road, Monroeville.

Featured are:

• July 9 — Darryl & Kim, jazz and R&B

• July 16 — East Winds Symphonic Band

• July 23 — Judi Figel and accompaniment

Concerts continue into the fall with:

• Oct. 22 — The Pittsburgh Belairs

• Dec. 3 — Larry Cervi’s East End Kids

Stay tuned for updates and additions to the lineup featuring local talent.

The Monroeville Arts Council is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to arts education and promoting the arts within the community.
