Runners on your mark for a new community Halloween tradition – The Great Pumpkin Race.

The race, planned by The Monroeville Foundation in partnership with Forbes Hospital/AHN, will be held Oct. 24 at the Monroeville Community Park West on Tilbrook Road.

In past years, The Monroeville Foundation has hosted the 5K Run for Your Life and Walk as part of their annual CommUNITY Day celebration in July. “Because of the continuing challenges that covid presented during the early spring, it just was not possible to plan a large event like CommUNITY Day for this year,” said Ernie Groover, Monroeville Foundation board president. “We did see an opportunity to continue with 5K race and walk and were pleased that AHN Forbes Hospital was willing to support and sponsor an event with us. We felt that Halloween was the perfect time to create a new community event – we hope this will be a continuing tradition.”

The Great Pumpkin Race will include a timed 5K race, along with a Family Walk and a Kid’s Dash for ages 4-11.

The event will feature an early warm-up stretch and aerobics with Planet Fitness instructors. The race will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the walkers on a route within the 66-acres of the Monroeville Community Park West. The Kid’s Dash will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. An after party with a health fair, an awards ceremony, food and music are all part of the excitement. Costumes are encouraged and prizes will be awarded for best and most creative costumes for adults and kids.

Registration is now open. The fee is $25 for adults and $10 for kids up until Oct. 15. A limited number of event day registrations will be be available.

Register by Oct. 10 to be guaranteed to receive an event T-shirt.
