In brief: Monroeville happenings for week of Aug. 22, 2022
‘Welcome back’ to club
The International Women’s Club will start its 2022-23 year on Sept. 9 at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road, Monroeville.
The meeting begins at 9 a.m. as a “welcome back” and chance for members to get together after the restrictions caused by covid-19. All members are requested to bring a dish to serve.
Programs for the coming year are scheduled:
• Oct. 7, singer Brian Mehan
• Nov. 4, Dr. Barbara Burstin, author of “Sophie: the Incomparable Mayor Masloff”
• Dec. 2, holiday celebration
• March 3, Pipa, traditional Chinese musical instrument performance by Nancy Xiao and students
• April 14, Container Gardening presentation by a Penn State master gardener
• May 19, luncheon
Because of covid, babysitting service is suspended until further notice.
Library Fun Fest
Check out the fourth annual Library Fun Fest from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 27 on the Monroeville Public Library campus, 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd.
Featured will be a petting zoo, drum circles, balloon artists, magician, inflatable rides, food, games, a cupcake decorating contest and music, along with community and exhibitor booths. It is a rain-or-shine event.
Making special appearances from 1 to 3 will be football players Calijah Kancey, third team Associated Press All-American, and Nick Patti, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl starting quarterback.
Outdoor worship service
Greater Works, located in Monroeville’s University Park, partners with Church Without Walls in welcoming everyone in the community to an outdoor service from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 27.
The service will be held in Greater Works’ lower back parking lot, where attendees of all ages can enjoy musical worship, powerful testimonials and an uplifting message from Pastor Gary Mitrik. Prayer tents will be available for those in need.
All guests are invited to stay and enjoy a complimentary lunch afterwards. No reservations are required.
Penn Hills High School 50th reunion
Penn Hills High School’s Class of 1973 will celebrate its 50-year reunion on Oct. 6, 2023, at Futules Harmar House in Harmarville. Classmates should email Joanna Papa Ogden (joanneogden@comcast.net) or Connie Hall Hannan (con.hannan@gmail.com) with their current emails and contact information.
