Meditating with plants, blind date with a book and more at Northern Tier Library
The Northern Tier Library is offering contactless lobby pick-up of materials for patrons and is currently open for browsing. Computer use is by appointment only. Returned items will be quarantined for at least 72 hours, but often longer, before being checked in. A variety of programs and services are being offered remotely. Meditating with Plants
Join Grace Astraea of TimeSpaceOne Healing Arts at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 for a connective and calming meditation experience with your favorite plant via Zoom. Simple instructions for preparing and implementing a plant meditation will be given. We will spend a short period practicing the strengthening of our relationship to the living world via our plants. If you don’t have plants, you still can participate. No previous experience is needed, just an open mind and willingness to learn more about your relationship to the plant kingdom. Registration required to receive the Zoom meeting invitation link.
Take-Home Maker Mondays
The Pine Center Maker Mondays are now virtual. Even though you can’t visit in person at the Pine Center, Maker Mondays will continue in a virtual format. Every Monday, a tutorial video will be shared on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. A weekly supply kit will be available to reserve and pick up for some great Maker fun at home.
Feb. 22: Marble Maze. Use craft and recycled materials to create a small maze.
Blind Date with A Book
To celebrate Valentine’s Day this February, Northern Tier Library is playing matchmaker! Going on a blind date is a lot like opening a new book: You never know what kind of experience you’re going to have. Call or stop by the library to select your “date” from the display of wrapped books, check one out and unwrap it when you get home. Hopefully, it’s love at first sight!
Knit Lit
Do you knit, crochet, or craft in any way? If not, would you like to learn? Knit Lit will be meeting online via Zoom on Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. Beginners are invited to come and learn; experienced crafters are invited to bring a project to work on. Everyone is encouraged to bring their latest read to talk about. Registration is required to receive the Zoom meeting invitation link.
Winter Reading Challenge
Grab a cup of hot chocolate and challenge yourself to read some good books during the cold of winter. Libraries across Allegheny County are participating in the Winter Reading Challenge 2021. The challenge will end Feb. 28. Log the books you read and activities you complete through Beanstack to earn points for chances to win a prize. Beanstack can be accessed through carnegielibrary.beanstack.org or can be downloaded as an app on your device. If you registered for Beanstack during the Summer Learning Program, you can use the same login information! Please check out the website to learn more.
