McKeesport man sentenced to 5 years on drug, weapons charges
A former McKeesport man who was arrested in connection with a 2019 fight and shooting at Monroeville Mall was sentenced to just over 5 years in federal prison following a conviction on narcotics and weapons charges.
Jared Ogrosky, 23, formerly of Bowman Avenue, McKeesport, was convicted of narcotics trafficking and unlawful possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady announced Wednesday.
Last May, law enforcement served a federal search warrant at Ogrosky’s residence roughly a month after the mall shooting. At his residence, they found nine “bricks” of heroin, a loaded Glock handgun and a 50-round, 9mm drum-style magazine.
In conjunction with his guilty plea, Ogrosky admitted to having the firearm to further his drug trafficking.
Federal prosecutors said Ogrosky also made false statements on federal forms while buying five guns between November 2018 and February 2019.
Ogrosky is an admitted member of the “Gwalla” street gang. In 2019, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. characterized the Monroeville Mall shooting as the product of a fight between two McKeesport gangs.
Following his prison sentence, Ogrosky will be subject to three years of supervised release.
The investigation was conducted under Project Safe Neighborhoods, the Department of Justice’s centerpiece when it comes to violent crime reduction.
