A Pittsburgh man is headed to court on charges he repeatedly attacked a McKeesport woman with his car, killing her in front of a member of her family.
Brandon K. Pendleton, 31, of the city’s Sheraden neighborhood, waived his preliminary hearing Friday morning, court records show. District Judge Kim Berkeley Clark sent the case to the Allegheny County Court.
Pendleton is set to be arraigned Aug. 1.
Allegheny County Police said they arrested Pendleton after he argued with Misty Lack, 39, and then fatally struck her with a Toyota Corolla on Jenny Lind Street in McKeesport around 1:15 a.m. June 22.
A victim related to Lack, who is not named in the police report, said Pendleton came to a McKeesport residence and “began touching him/her inappropriately,” according to a criminal complaint.
Lack confronted Pendleton and told him to leave, the complaint said. An argument ensued. Pendleton got in his car to leave.
Pendleton then “drove directly (at Lack) trying to hit them with the vehicle” in front of the victim, the complaint said.
After Pendleton drove over the sidewalk, he hit Lack in the yard. She fell on the hood of Pendleton’s car. When Pendleton stopped driving, Lack fell onto the street.
“Pendleton then ran over Misty Lack with the vehicle and fled from the scene,” the complaint said.
First responders took Lack to UPMC McKeesport hospital, where she died.
A license plate reader spotted Pendleton’s Corolla traveling through the Squirrel Hill Tunnel at 2:46 a.m., the complaint said. Police went to Pendleton’s home, where they found the car, which had sustained damage to its front end and had a smashed rear window.
Police charged Pendleton with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and attempted homicide.
He is in Allegheny County Jail. Bail was denied because he is a threat to the community, court records show.
